Sam Katchmar was born in 1928 in Forestville, Pennsylvania, and is the eldest son of Ukrainian immigrants Paraska Holowata Katchmar and Steve Katchmar of Wysoczany, Poland.  "Sam's Story" is a memoir of his childhood growing up in the Lemko Region of Southeast Poland, in the midst of war and ethnic cleansing.  After finally leaving Poland in 1948, after his family was deported from their native lands, Sam enlisted in the United States Air Force, eventually rising to the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring.  Now in his early eighties, Sam set out to record the extraordinary story of his family's experiences in the 1930s and 1940s.

Sam and his wife Lydia are living their American Dream in Northern California. "Sam's Story" is his first book.
